After School Pattern Project Inspired by Artist Lisa Congdon

March 19, 2012 • After School Workshop

This past week, Lead After School Workshop teacher Brianne introduced the kids to the work of San Fransisco-based artist and illustrator, Lisa Congdon.

An original piece by artist Lisa Congdon

The kids drew from Congdon’s works, which feature bright palettes and layers of pattern and texture inspired by the world around her. Like Congdon, the After School students created collages with various patterns, that they then illustrated with line drawings and text. With this project, the students were able to experience drawing and paper material in a new way: instead of traditional drawing on a blank, white paper, the kids were able to create drawings that interacted with the collage that they were layered upon.
