Magical Bodies

September 13, 2014 • After School Workshop

Last week we started thinking about how we use our bodies to make art, and how we could modify our bodies to make it work differently. We looked to German Artist Rebecca Horn to get started:bild

Following her lead, we extended fingertips and painted with them as if they were paintbrushes.

We saw what kind of drawings we could make if we had to jump to reach the paper:

And rather then drawing with our hands we tried drawing with our toes:

We also wondered how we could alter our bodies through making costumes – by extending our shoulders or making ourselves tall with hats… Sophie Taeuber Arp provided our cue:

And we were off!

One more thing. Here at the Studio we have many budding Textile Artists who will leap at any opportunity to create their own projects out of fabric. Here are just a couple:

Have a great weekend!
