Impermanent Art in the Park

October 28, 2014 • After School Workshop

What with all the leaves blowing around and the success of our fall projects a week or so ago, our minds turned to the work of British artist Andy Goldsworthy, and the sculptural and site specific work he does in the great outdoors:

Well, we after schoolers share Andy Goldworthy’s skill for collecting and assembling, and we love to sculpt. We also love going to the park. And, as much as we have grown to recognize that overjoyed expression the parents have when, upon arriving to collect the after school artists and their artworks, they see that the artwork in question is especially large and heavy, we question whether art has to last forever, and whether theres a particular value in art that is fleeting and impermanent. With these thoughts in mind, and while the weather was good, we went to the park…:

…and worked in teams to create sculptures out of the things we could find.

And when the weather failed us, we applied the same approach to the studio:

Here we are, making and admiring our work!
