Honey, I shrunk the After-Schoolers…

December 9, 2014 • After School Workshop

Last week saw us playing with scale; what would the world be like if we suddenly shrank to the size of an ant? How would be we experience our surroundings? We imagined our tiny selves in a new giant world and sketched our ideas:

We spent some time exploring the studio, imagining how we would perceive it in our new, shrunken state.  We examined the tip of a pencil, the edge of a shoe, the detail of a toy and painted them enlarged, so that a tiny detail filled the paper. By midweek, we had rolled our sleeves up and started to sculpt a scaled up world of massive ladybugs, peas and teeth out of balloons and plaster bandages!

While our sculptures dried, and once we had resumed our normal size, we managed to play with clay, draw and paint – so a typical week for the after-schoolers!
