Pouring Plaster

May 5, 2015 • After School Workshop

As all artists know, there comes a time when instead of making new work, you first need to make new tools.

This is where our ceramic artists found themselves last week, having excelled at hand building and after mastering the art of the humble pinch pot, they set about experimenting with plaster – that trusty and reliable companion to clay.  Plaster is every potters best friend, as it can be poured into all sorts of diverse forms, and due to its absorbent quality, it sucks out the moisture from clay and so makes the ideal material for molds and stamps.

Our team of artists and crafts folk set about making their own plaster stamps with which to signature their work, and various other molds, stamps and plaster forms for the MM ceramics studio.
