When was the last time you held a prism up to your eyes and and saw the many colors that make up light? Or painted each of your nails a different color? This week’s theme was color. They have been mixing it, separating it, shaping it and suspending it.
Our after school activities have included a variety if experiments with ways to use color. We suspended pigment in water, dipping paper into liquid and pulling out beautifully marbled color.
We used shaving cream to prop up paint and make an unorthodox printing surface. Once the shaving cream was wiped away, the results showed bold colors.
Dipping marbles in paint and rolling them across paper, students made abstract paintings in which the colors mix subtly where the wet lines cross each other. And when we put dye into soap and made bubble paintings,
The highlight of the week had to be tie-dying shirts that the kids brought to the Studio. They used spiral and accordion folds and dyed shirts, pants and pillow cases. Between the patterns and the color mixing, so much fun happened this week!
