In the late 19th and early 20th centuries the Art Nouveau movement produced curving, fluid decoration, taking its inspiration from nature. What, you ask, does that have to do with an astronaut costume?
This week, our After School students dressed up in all sorts of costumes, posing for their Art Nouveau portraits. We held back nothing, so that they could be any variety of characters. Puppies, astronauts, princesses, fashion icons- you name it, they struck the pose.
Once the portraits were printed, the kids cut them out and decorated them using borders, colors, stencils and the fluid lines and shapes that they learned about.
